CHARLOTTE, NC - Earlier this month Burke Communications attended the 2012 Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Foundation (CMPF) spring luncheon. This year's key note speaker featured Captain Mark Kelly, Commander of NASA's Endeavour and husband to former US Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

"The leadership luncheon is a great opportunity to not only recognize our local police team and their efforts, but it also a time for us to show our support for the men and women who continue to keep Charlotte safe," said Jack Burke, CEO of Burke Communications, who also serves on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation board.

The Foundation provides support for innovative programs and initiatives that are not presently funded by police department budgets, helping to ensure a safer community for the entire Charlotte-Mecklenburg region. Burke Communications designed and printed the event's program, tickets, donor cards, and event flyer, as well as provide Public Relations and a media press conference for the event.

At this year's luncheon, Mark Kelly spoke on the importance leadership, perseverance and perspective. Though Kelly had many experiences as an American astronaut and Navy Captain, he said he has learned the most from his wife, Gabby Giffords.

"I'm just inspired by how hard someone can fight. As she heads out the door to go to rehab, she often says 'Fight, fight, fight.' She's not going to give up; she's going to get better," said Kelly.

Though Gabby was not present at the luncheon, Kelly concluded the luncheon with words of wisdom from his wife: Be passionate. Be courageous. Be your best.
