Annual Toys For Tots Golf Tournament Kicks Off Holiday Fundraising
09 26 2011
CHARLOTTE, NC - The organizers of Charlotte's fourth annual Toys For Tots Golf Tournament (toysfortotsgolf.org) are pleased to announce the tournament will be Monday, September 26, 2011 at Cedarwood Country Club in south Charlotte.
Last year, the Toys For Tots Golf Tournament contributed $24,000 worth of toys purchased from Learning Express to make the holidays possible for hundreds of Charlotte area children.
The 2011 tournament features a captain's choice-format golf tournament followed by a silent auction and awards dinner. Sponsors from the Charlotte business community were generous in their contributions of funds, volunteer time, products and toys to make the event a success.
The Marines will have a large presence at the tournament with a Color Guard presentation at 8:30, a Drill sergeant to yell at the players on the 18th hole and a Humvee and WWII Jeep. A pro from Dana Radar Golf will give some tips before the tee off and there are two cars available if anyone gets a hole in one.
Toys collected at the tournament and throughout the holiday season will be distributed as Christmas gifts by the Marine Corps Toys For Tots Foundation to needy children in the Charlotte area. Sponsors include Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick, LLP as this year's title Sponsor, Sugar Ridge Hotel, Century Contractors, Goodrich, Horizon Lines, Jarden Process Solutions, Learning Express, Pionear Recruiting, Showcase Realty and SSI Schaefer. Media Sponsors include FOX News, WBT 1110 AM, and Little Ones Magazine. Major Team Sponsors were American Community Bank, Benham Builders, CEO Ninety, Charlotte 49ers, Cunningham Associates, Elliott Davis, Greer & Walker, NeedASitter.com, New Dominion Bank and SGL Carbon.
Toys for Tots is the Marine Corps' premier community action program. It is one of the nation's flagship charitable endeavors, an American tradition and a national treasure. For over 60 years, Marines have been the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children at Christmas. The Toys for Tots message of hope has motivated youngsters to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Toys for Tots not only benefits children, but the program also has a positive impact on communities, businesses, the Marine Corps and the nation. September 24, 2012 has already been selected as the date for the tournament next year.
